ALL 4 seasons – Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter – and ALL 6 tones – Cool, Warm, Bright, Soft-muted, Deep, and Light – could easily wear black.
There are no rules in colour analysis, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Remind them that there is no central body anywhere in the world that regulates on colour…
Just because black only appears in most Winter swatch wallets, do not get distracted by this.
As you will most probably have heard me say before, those ruddy swatch wallets are a pain in the backside.
‘Only Winters can wear black’ is out-of-date puffery that was promoted as gospel in 1979.
Some training companies are still teaching this nonsense but anyone with half a brain will notice that the free-thinkers amongst us HAVE moved on over the last 40 years or so!
Anyone can wear any colour
- I have helped thousands of Springs, Summers, and Autumns to wear black!
- And I have also advised a number of Winters never to wear black, especially near their face!
We are not providing a seasonal or tonal diagnosis and then dictating to our clients that they can only wear the colours in the related swatch wallets.
If you have been doing this, slap yourself soundly! I had to do to myself that hundreds of years ago, and I can still feel the bruise!
If our client wants to wear black (or any other colour), even if we think she looks dreadful in it, it’s our job to show her how to combine that with other colours to help her look and feel fabulous anyway.
We go through exactly how to do this in the ‘How to Wear Hard-to-Wear Colours’ exercise in my Colour Analysis Training course. See page 27 in the Colour Analysis Training Manual.
With this exercise, you can help any client wear any colour.
Use this simple, fun exercise to get more 1-1 clients
Turn this exercise into a small group workshop called, amazingly, How to Wear Hard-to-Wear Colours.
Invite 4 or 6 ladies to bring one or more items that they never wear.
Use the exercise above to show them how they can easily wear any colour.
They will love it! It’s a simple concept that will save them money, and give them total confidence in you as their colour consultant.
Then invite each guest to book their own personalised one-to-one colour consultation with you to discover their season, best neutrals, best accent colours, etc.
