Can I wear red lipstick?

Can I wear red lipstick? Well first let’s be clear on this, everyone can wear red however, just because you can doesn’t mean you should. For instance, Winters need lipstick like they need oxygen but anyone who mistakenly thinks every Winter on the planet can wear strong reds will probably also think that all Winters can wear a strong red lipstick. Really?

Rumbustious Red

Red is the colour of fire and blood and is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, sacrifice, passion, beauty, and anger. In heraldry, red is used to indicate courage. Ancient laws restricted its use to royalty. Red is symbolic of nobility, ferocity and boldness. The first known English Royal arms; a golden lion, rampant, on a red field was first used by King Henry II (1154 – 1189).

Ravishing Red

Use red as an accent colour to stimulate people to make quick decisions. This includes when you’re dressing to meet prospective clients and also in your marketing; use red for ‘Buy Now’ or sale signs. When choosing red for clients or yourself remember that red often evokes erotic feelings – red lipstick, red nail polish, red-light district!

So before suggesting using red in her wardrobe, take your client’s Colour Psychology and also her Style personality into account first.

Let’s be clear on this – everyone can wear red – Winters can take a strong, intense, cool, bright red. Summers can wear a muted, cool version like soft raspberry. Autumns will look ravishing in a darker, warm, brick red. Springs will sparkle in a brighter, yellow-based, tomato red. You can learn more about which shades each season and tonal direction can wear in the Colour Analysis Training in a Box.

However, just because you can doesn’t mean you should!

Can I wear red lipstick? I’m not so sure…

Radiant Red

For instance, Winters need lipstick like they need oxygen – or they can just look pale. Anyone who mistakenly thinks every Winter on the planet can wear strong reds will probably also think that all Winters can wear a strong red lipstick. Assumption, as I keep saying, is the mother of all misconception.

Check first that your Winter client wants to wear a strong red lipstick before you slap it on the poor woman’s face. Not all physical Winters are also Winter-linked personality types regardless of what some so-called experts say.

Check your client’s colour psychology type first!

How? Use my questionnaire and answer-sheet in the fabulous Colour Psychology course. You also need to take her Style personality into account and we’ll look at that another time. These are just some of the fascinating subjects we covered in my Colour Analysis Training.
